Sponge Hammer Games
Janos Szabo, Senior Programmer

Janos is our experienced Unity programmer, and Unity is his hobby as well. He loves what he does at work and he wouldn’t change it at all. He chose this career path to make better games and bring better entertainment to everyone.

What do you like most about working for Sponge Hammer Games?

I like the social connection between each member of the team; it makes it work for all of us. We share similar values, work towards the same goal; we’re all kind to each other, that sort of thing. It creates a positive atmosphere that’s nice to work in. What I also find important is that I can improve my skills; I can learn and develop within Sponge Hammer Games. And because I love to work and play around with Unity in my spare time, I get to use all I’ve learned at home as well.

What is a typical day look like for a senior programmer at SHG?

My mornings are usually filled with meetings. I like them because they help me organise my to-do list for the day. These meetings are valuable from a social point of view, too. I believe a team needs proper social interaction to be successful.
After the meetings I start coding, and I usually listen to progressive music while I work. The only downside is that I rarely take a lunch break.

Tell us something about you that might surprise us.

I have a twin brother who also works in software development. Our professional journey has been quite similar so far. Only recently did he become a project manager, and I decided to continue to do programming – that’s what I love doing.

If you could live anywhere, where would it be?

Majorca

My dream location would be a tropical beach with clear, blue water and lots of plants. Or somewhere in the mountains, near a lake and a forest.

If you could choose a superpower, what would it be?

Well, I’d love to know what makes every human being happy. With that knowledge, I’d be able to make perfect games for everyone, to entertain and help them feel better.
