Every week, we share an interesting fact from the natural world on our social media. In July, we had a collection of animals that can sleep standing up; dolphins who call each other by unique names; Ecuador discovered an extinct tortoise species and horses are using facial impressions to communicate.

Giant Tortoise Found Know to Be Extinct for 112 Years
Ecuador confirmed a giant tortoise they found two years ago belongs to the Chelonoidis phantasticus species. This is extremely good news because they believed those turtles were extinct.

Dolphins Call Each Other by Name
They use a unique whistle to identify each other. A team from the University of St Andrews in Scotland found that when the animals hear their own call played back to them, they respond.
Do you know any other animals that call each other by name?

Horses Use Facial Expressions to Communicate
Our equine friends use seventeen facial expressions to communicate. This is fascinating because that is ten fewer than humans but four more than chimpanzees.
